QUESTION AND ANSWER
You took home the Elite 90 award this season. That’s a pretty prestigious award, how did it feel to win that one?
I actually didn’t have any idea, so getting that award kind of took me by surprise. When they said my name, it was an eye-opening thing because past winners like Carson Wentz, Esley Thornton, Daniel Polansky, those guys took their academics pretty seriously. To be in the same conversation as them was pretty cool and a good feeling.
Your favorite Frisco moment this year was…
The alumni practice. It’s just good to see how much history and tradition has been going on for quite awhile that it’s still living. The other thing is the volunteer opportunity we got to do down there. Those kids love people, so being able to help them and impact them in a positive way is pretty special.
You’ll have a pretty young room next year, how vital is it for you to take on a leadership role this offseason?
It’s going to be a huge step, not just for me but for other guys on the team as well. There are a ton of areas where guys can improve and become leaders. I’m looking forward to it because it will take me out of my comfort zone a bit, but I’m excited for it.
Coach Roehl has been your position coach, how excited were you when you found out he’d be the offensive coordinator?
I was very happy. I see the sacrifices he makes for his family, all the coaches do, but him specifically because I’ve been around him. I’m just extremely excited for him and the opportunity on offense, bringing in a bunch of other really good coaches.
