We put cross country seniors and team captains Katie Bostrom and Kayla Huhnerkoch to the ultimate test. One that is far more challenging than even their most difficult exam. We wanted to see how well they know fellow senior and team captain Annika Rotvold.

1. The meet you are looking forward to the most this season is…

ANNIKA ROTVOLD: Conference

KATIE BOSTROM: The Bison Open. It’s a 4k and mid-distance runners love a short XC court.
KAYLA HUHNERKOCH: Summit league championships

2. You first started running competitively at what age?

ANNIKA ROTVOLD: 13 (seventh grade)

KATIE BOSTROM: A sophomore in high school. I could be wrong. She was also on the Hillsboro golf team.
KAYLA HUHNERKOCH: 13

3. Treadmill or Elliptical?

ANNIKA ROTVOLD: Treadmill for sure

KATIE BOSTROM: Treadmill. Our treadmill at the track faces the wall and she prefers not to listen to music, Annika is a beast on the treadmill. I also don’t think I’ve ever seen her on the elliptical.
KAYLA HUHNERKOCH: Treadmill

4. What is your spirit animal?

ANNIKA ROTVOLD: Harbor seal

KATIE BOSTROM: A dinosaur (bright green preferably)
KAYLA HUHNERKOCH: Dinosaurs

5. Which sport do you love to watch on television?

ANNIKA ROTVOLD: Track and field

KATIE BOSTROM: Elliott Stone’s robotics competitions
KAYLA HUHNERKOCH: Track and field

6. Have you ever ran a marathon?

ANNIKA ROTVOLD: No

KATIE BOSTROM: Not yet
KAYLA HUHNERKOCH: No

7. What is the exact temperature you enjoy running at?

ANNIKA ROTVOLD: 55 degrees

KATIE BOSTROM: Sunny, 60 with a light breeze – because it’s not too hot, not too cold, all you need is a light jacket.
KAYLA HUHNERKOCH: 65 degrees

8. Your favorite post-run/meet meal is…

ANNIKA ROTVOLD: Waffles with nut butter and fruit and a smoothie

Football: Seth Wilson

Seth WilsonWilson had his redshirt pulled after the injury to Lance Dunn in 2017. He played in eight games and was an impactful backfield presence for the Bison. He rushed for 420 yards in the final eight games including a 194-yard outing in the FCS Semifinal victory over Sam Houston State.

What class are you looking forward to taking during the fall semester?
My graphic design class. I love art.

What band/artist pumps you up before a game, meet or match?

Soccer: Mallory Fenske

Mallory Fenske

One of five seniors for the Bison soccer team, Fenske played in all 19 matches in 2017 with four shots on goal. She was named to the Summit League Women’s Soccer Championship All-Tournament Team last season as well.

What class are you looking forward to taking during the fall semester?
I am probably most excited for my International Politics class.

What band/artist pumps you up before a game, meet or match?
Panic at the Disco or Beyonce

Who has been the most influential television character in your life?
Daenerys Targaryen from Game of Thrones

Would you rather skydive or bungee jump?
Neither, I am absolutely terrified of heights

What was the last book you read?
Harry Potter, Order of the Phoenix

Volleyball: Abbi Klos

Abbi Klos

In what was her sophomore campaign in 2017, Klos saw action in all 28 matches, starting in 25 of those contests. Her 31 digs against Purdue Fort Wayne on November 3 earned her Summit League Defensive Player of the Week honors on November 6.

What class are you looking forward to taking during the fall semester?

Men’s Cross Country: Evan Kottsick

Evan Kottsick

Named a team captain for the 2018 cross country team, Kottsick looks to build off a successful 2017. He finished 19th overall at 2017’s Summit League Championships. He followed that up as NDSU’s number five finisher in the NCAA Midwest Regional in the 10k course. Kottsick won the Bison Open this season.

Women’s Cross Country: Alaysia Freetly

Alaysia Freetly

Freetly used her redshirt last season but competed in three meets unattached. At the UND Ron Pynn Classic last October, she ran a season-best 19:36.5 in the 5k.

What class are you looking forward to taking during the fall semester?
